President Trump awarded retired Navy SEAL, Master Chief Petty Officer Britt K. Slabinski the nation’s highest award for valor in combat, the Medal of Honor, for his actions 16 years ago in Afghanistan in what became known as the Battle of Roberts Ridge. Slabinski is credited with braving heavy fire from Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters while leading his team in an attempted rescue of teammate Petty Officer 1st Class Neil C. Roberts, who fell from their helicopter as they were attempting to land on top of Takur Ghar, a 10,000-foot snow-covered mountain in Afghanistan.
